About UsMission/Vision/Background The Vision 2030 process identified Health and Healthcare as significant issues in planning for the future of the community and our citizens. Specifically, Vision 2030 composed the following statement as a goal for our community:Gainesville-Hall County is a model for providing high-quality, affordable healthcare to its residents. An important part of this initiative is an innovative set of wellness programs, which involves residents in managing their own health. The Greater Hall Chamber of Commerce Healthcare Committee, which has been in existence for a number of years, has embraced this goal. The Committee had been facilitating an annual fall Healthcare Conference for a number of years. These meetings present information on a number of topics including Cardiovascular Wellness, Wellness Programs in the Workplace and the state of the healthcare system locally and nationally. Our programs have invited guests and speakers including Congressman Nathan Deal and former Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich. In addition, the Committee regularly facilitates discussion around access to healthcare, changes in the health insurance market and the challenges and opportunities facing local providers. In 2007, the Healthcare Committee asked the Center for Health Transformation to help develop a strategic plan to focus on the goal outlined in the Vision 2030 health statement. As a result, the Committee modified the annual fall event into an Interactive Health and Wellness Expo focusing on Obesity and Diabetes Prevention, as well as hosted the first “corporate challenge” 5K run. The Committee also began planning other initiatives that support, encourage and embrace Wellness and Health in our community. The Committee has focused around four community events and has developed a Marketing/PR Campaign to link and brand these events as a “Vision 2030 initiative” under the HealthSmart umbrella. These events are: 1. HealthSmart Community Challenge An annual interactive community Health Expo focusing on Health and Wellness. 2. HealthSmart Restaurant Challenge A recognition program identifying restaurants in the area that offer “healthy” choices on their menu and provide these restaurants additional visibility and public recognition. 3. HealthSmart Business Wellness Challenge A recognition program that identifies and recognizes employers in the area that have adopted a Wellness and Health culture within their organization that promotes healthy lifestyle choices. These businesses will be highlighted and provided with public recognition for their efforts. 4. HealthSmart Corporate Challenge An annual 5K Run/Walk event that includes corporate and community “teams.” The event includes education and opportunities for the participants and the teams to participate in programs and education focused on physical activity and nutrition.
